Conversational Review: Gene Clark - Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers (1967)

Josh and I (still inexplicably credited as Miami Dan) decided, one fine morning, we'd listen to Gene Clark's 1967 debut solo album Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers.

[07:21:49] Miami Dan: k
[07:21:53] Miami Dan: I shall countdown
[07:21:54] Miami Dan: 3
[07:21:55] Miami Dan: 2
[07:21:55] Miami Dan: 1
[07:21:56] Miami Dan: PLAY

Echoes begins.

[07:22:17] Miami Dan: well
[07:22:19] Miami Dan: this is lush
[07:22:27] Josh: very nice
[07:23:22] Josh: not really what I was expecting
[07:23:43] Josh: nice arrangement, though
[07:24:10] Miami Dan: not bad
[07:25:21] Josh: pretty good song

Think I'm Gonna Feel Better begins.

[07:25:36] Miami Dan: not bad
[07:25:41] Miami Dan: blah
[07:25:46] Miami Dan: not minding this one either
[07:25:50] Josh: apple headphones sound like balls
[07:25:54] Miami Dan: oh good.
[07:26:02] Miami Dan: and you would know
[07:26:08] Josh: so, that's a bummer
[07:26:13] Miami Dan: :(
[07:26:34] Josh: A lot of baroque touches in his songs so far
[07:26:46] Josh: nice harmonies, too
[07:26:49] Miami Dan: yeah

Tried So Hard begins.

[07:26:54] Miami Dan: that one was quite good, actually
[07:27:59] Josh: more of a country approach on this one
[07:28:17] Miami Dan: yeah, not really my thing
[07:28:32] Josh: I still think it's good
[07:28:39] Josh: but the previous two were stronger

Is Yours Is Mine begins.

[07:29:35] Miami Dan: ooh
[07:30:18] Josh: interesting song
[07:30:22] Miami Dan: well, harmonies are nice
[07:30:27] Miami Dan: song's a little stale though
[07:30:28 | Edited 07:30:35] Josh: how it breaks down into those just harmony parts
[07:31:03] Josh: cool guitars
[07:31:07] Josh: I like the tambourine
[07:31:18 | Edited 07:31:28] Josh: and this drum part that's just happened was cool
[07:31:31] Josh: and is happening again
[07:31:39] Miami Dan: nyeh

Keep On Pushin' begins.

[07:33:06] Miami Dan: I have nothing to say about this one
[07:33:18] Miami Dan: s'k
[07:33:20] Josh: I like the the guitar arrangment

I Found You begins.

[07:33:33] Josh: very short
[07:33:37] Miami Dan: ooh
[07:34:34] Josh: I like his singing
[07:34:49] Miami Dan: I don't particularly
[07:34:51] Josh: those soaring harmonies are cool
[07:34:59] Miami Dan: meh
[07:35:17] Josh: this album seems to have lost you after those first two songs
[07:35:37] Miami Dan: IYIM was also alright
[07:35:48] Miami Dan: nothing else has been all that interesting

So You Say You Lost Your Baby begins.

[07:36:07] Josh: "Elevator Operator" seems like it will be interesting
[07:36:25] Josh: just basing that off the name
[07:36:49] Miami Dan: BET IT WON'T BE
[07:37:00] Josh: ooh, this one has strings
[07:38:06] Josh: I like the arrangement on this one
[07:38:20] Josh: there's low strings off in the left
[07:38:23] Josh: and higher strings in the right
[07:38:33] Miami Dan: ooh, so there is

Elevator Operator begins.

[07:38:51] Miami Dan: yay jangly guitar
[07:39:04] Josh: do you like jangly guitar
[07:39:14] Miami Dan: meh
[07:39:25] Miami Dan: BLAH
[07:39:30] Miami Dan: this one is ok so far
[07:39:34] Josh: I think so
[07:39:37] Josh: I like it
[07:40:02] Josh: More of an ominous feel than the rest of the album
[07:40:15] Miami Dan: dat bass
[07:40:20] Josh: guitars remind me of early Pink Floyd
[07:40:37] Josh: yeah, cool bass line

The Same One begins.

[07:42:02] Josh: a drop in mood
[07:43:14] Miami Dan: still a bit drab
[07:43:39] Josh: eh, it's alright
[07:43:46] Josh: not my favorite, though

Couldn't Believe Her begins.

[07:44:47] Josh: although, I do like the instrumental passages with his humming/whining
[07:45:19] Miami Dan: nnnyyyeeehhhh
[07:45:25] Miami Dan: this one's ok
[07:46:34] Miami Dan: rather short
[07:46:37] Josh: Byrds-ish

Needing Someone begins.

[07:46:41] Josh: not bad
[07:46:48] Josh: well, this is the last song
[07:47:07] Miami Dan: that is a correct observation
[07:47:19] Josh: seemed to go by so very quickly
[07:47:29] Miami Dan: I guess
[07:47:36] Miami Dan: nothing very remarkable here
[07:47:44] Josh: on this song?
[07:47:47] Miami Dan: on the album
[07:48:03] Josh: well, I would disagree
[07:48:05] Miami Dan: some of it's fine
[07:48:21] Miami Dan: but nothing too interesting
[07:48:26] Josh: I am liking this song, though
[07:48:33] Miami Dan: it's almost over
[07:48:45] Miami Dan: 9 more seconds
[07:48:49] Miami Dan: oh.

Album ends.

[07:49:12] Josh: Well, it's over now
[07:49:25] Miami Dan: yup.
[07:49:27] Miami Dan: hm
[07:50:01] Josh: Well, I feel like it was all very good
[07:50:15] Josh: not a bad track on it
[07:50:20] Josh: all strong compositions
[07:50:37] Josh: some were perhaps a bit more plain than others
[07:50:58] Miami Dan: yeah
[07:51:00] Josh: What do you think
[07:51:22] Miami Dan: certainly nothing bad on it, but nothing struck a chord or captured my interest particularly

Final ratings:
Josh: ★★★★
Miami Dan: ★★½

[07:51:44] Josh: really?
[07:51:47] Josh: a 2.5?
[07:52:16] Miami Dan: I don't care for any of it really
[07:52:23 | Edited 07:52:25] Josh: You're giving this the same rating as M.I.U.
[07:52:45] Miami Dan: that sounds oddly fitting
[07:53:07] Josh: but M.I.U. has legitimately poor songs
[07:53:17] Miami Dan: it had some great ones though
[07:53:30] Miami Dan: This one had nothing I felt was really above average
[07:53:51] Josh: I certainly think those first two were above average
[07:53:56] Josh: very nice songs
[07:54:09] Miami Dan: nice, but not brilliant
[07:54:31] Miami Dan: I don't get much enjoyment out of listening to it is all I'm sayin'
[07:54:36] Josh: brilliant gets a 3?
[07:54:44] Miami Dan: ?
[07:54:55] Josh: I was just giving you a hard time
[07:54:57] Miami Dan: ah
[07:56:32] Josh: So, that gives us an average 3.25
[07:57:09] Miami Dan: hooray
[07:57:47] Josh: my head hurts

Conclusion: Judd's taste in music is horrible.

Conversational Review: Dennis Wilson - Bambu (197?)

Josh and I (inexplicably credited as 'Miami Dan') decided to listen to Dennis Wilson's Bambu. As with L.A., I'd already heard it and Josh hadn't. However, as there is no official tracklist - the Pacific Ocean Blue reissue tracks don't hang together cohesively - I just tossed off a tracklist of my own:

01. Time For Bed
02. Wild Situation (bootleg version)
03. Are You Real?
04. Companion (bootleg version)
05. Cocktails
06. Moonlight
07. I Love You
08. School Girl (bootleg version)
09. He's A Bum
10. It's Not Too Late
11. Love Remember Me
12. Album Tag Song
13. All Alone

[22:24:50] Miami Dan: 3
[22:24:52] Miami Dan: 2
[22:24:52] Miami Dan: 1
[22:24:54] Miami Dan: PLAY

Time For Bed begins.

[22:25:09] Josh: that's a piano right there
[22:25:12] Miami Dan: yes
[22:25:16] Miami Dan: this song has crazy horns
[22:25:44] Josh: wish they were a bit more audible
[22:25:50] Josh: this song is weird
[22:25:59] Josh: he's not really singing
[22:26:00] Miami Dan: chorus is crazy
[22:26:03] Josh: it's more talking
[22:26:07] Miami Dan: I guess
[22:26:40] Josh: very country
[22:26:43] Miami Dan: hm
[22:27:04] Josh: why the in the world is this called "Time for Bed"
[22:27:11] Miami Dan: I've no clue
[22:27:47] Miami Dan: so that was a thing

Wild Situation begins.

[22:28:01] Josh: well, at least it's got some kick to it
[22:28:04] Miami Dan: true that
[22:28:08 | Edited 22:28:10] Miami Dan: this one's alright too
[22:29:14] Josh: it's okay
[22:29:20] Josh: not really anything special
[22:29:32] Miami Dan: doesn't really go anywhere
[22:29:40] Josh: this songs have a very different feel to them than POB
[22:29:50] Miami Dan: yeah, they're a bit more hard
[22:30:04] Miami Dan: I think you can hear Carl calling out the lines in this bit
[22:30:12] Miami Dan: here comes the erection part
[22:30:20] Miami Dan: yay

Are You Real? begins.

[22:30:28] Josh: woohoo for erections
[22:30:46] Josh: what does he say in the released version?
[22:30:48] Miami Dan: This one's kinda filler
[22:30:52] Miami Dan: not sure
[22:30:55] Josh: or does it fade out after the "direction" line
[22:31:22] Miami Dan: no, it's a different take altogether
[22:32:43] Miami Dan: kinda cool, this bit
[22:32:52] Josh: he was certainly going in a different direction
[22:32:58] Josh: with this album
[22:33:07] Miami Dan: yeah
[22:33:13] Miami Dan: though I do prefer POB by a longshot
[22:33:21] Miami Dan: then again, I suppose this was incomplete
[22:33:36] Josh: this seems like it's the score to an action movie
[22:33:44] Miami Dan: maybe :P

Companion begins.

[22:34:02] Josh: oh
[22:34:02] Miami Dan: DRUM SOLO
[22:34:14] Miami Dan: This track is a jam
[22:34:42] Josh: is this the whole song
[22:34:51] Miami Dan: no
[22:34:58] Josh: ah, there we are
[22:36:07] Josh: the percussion is cool
[22:36:14] Miami Dan: certainly
[22:36:21] Josh: the horns are interesting
[22:36:30] Josh: although, they kinda make me think of a game show
[22:36:46] Miami Dan: different direction, josh
[22:37:20] Miami Dan: Munoz's songs for this album are by far the best
[22:37:31] Miami Dan: though the next track's quite nice
[22:37:41] Josh: I don't know which tracks he wrote
[22:37:52 | Edited 22:38:30] Josh: I'm just kinda letting it play wthout really checking what the song is called er whatever
[22:38:04] Miami Dan: mkai

Cocktails begins.

[22:40:30] Josh: am I not supposed to be able to understand him
[22:40:37] Miami Dan: prolly not
[22:40:43] Josh: "putta cat dizno kewapale tella"
[22:40:54] Miami Dan: well, I got that last line
[22:41:24] Josh: this just seems like a really lazy effort
[22:41:28] Miami Dan: I like it

Moonlight begins.

[22:41:34] Josh: he could write hundreds of those
[22:41:59] Miami Dan: The arrangement was ok
[22:42:14] Miami Dan: if it were just him and piano it really would be boring and lazy
[22:43:07] Miami Dan: This one's pretty good
[22:43:10] Josh: I actually like "A Time to Live in Dreams"
[22:43:37] Josh: was listening to that the other day
[22:43:37] Josh: anyway
[22:43:40] Miami Dan: I don't think much of it
[22:43:53] Josh: I like the melody
[22:43:59] Miami Dan: it's a notch above some of his other piano ballads
[22:44:02] Miami Dan: but not that good
[22:44:24] Miami Dan: and by other piano ballads I mean Barbara
[22:45:04] Josh: this might have done okay if it came out back in 78 or 79
[22:45:13] Miami Dan: eh
[22:45:16] Josh: sounds like a lot of stuff that was going on at that time
[22:45:24] Miami Dan: I spose

I Love You begins.

[22:46:06] Miami Dan: I like this one alright
[22:46:22] Miami Dan: gospelly
[22:47:32] Miami Dan: that was odd

School Girl begins.

[22:48:15] Josh: is this Dennis' take on "Hey, Little Tomboy"?
[22:48:21] Miami Dan: of course
[22:48:59] Miami Dan: here are the vocals they got rid of
[22:49:33] Miami Dan: I'm pretty sure he just said "put it there"

He's A Bum begins.

[22:49:56] Josh: I couldn't really make any of it out
[22:51:00] Josh: I really just don't think Dennis is for me
[22:51:16] Miami Dan: this one doesn't do much for me either
[22:51:19] Miami Dan: but hey
[22:51:22] Miami Dan: best song of the album next
[22:51:31] Josh: I like his early Beach Boy stuff
[22:51:48] Josh: but this stuff just doesn't really
[22:51:50] Josh: grab me
[22:51:50] Josh: at all

It's Not Too Late begins.

[22:52:57] Miami Dan: yeah, pretty much everything of his CATP onwards doesn't really do it for me
[22:53:09] Miami Dan: the big inexplicable exception being POB
[22:53:14] Miami Dan: which I adore
[22:53:18] Josh: I like two tracks from that
[22:53:24] Josh: "River Song" and "Pacific Ocean Blues"
[22:53:25] Miami Dan: I like all tracks from that
[22:53:29] Josh: maybe "What's Wrong"
[22:53:57] Miami Dan: Carl :D
[22:54:01 | Edited 22:54:05] Josh: I was just gonna ask
[22:54:25] Miami Dan: This song seems unfinished
[22:54:28] Miami Dan: still the best one
[22:55:39 | Edited 22:55:44] Miami Dan: because more or less the entire second half is just Carl doing this
[22:55:57] Josh: Carl is dope
[22:56:38] Miami Dan: dang right
[22:57:09] Josh: actually, Carl's part was pretty nice

Love Remember Me begins.

[22:57:17] Miami Dan: yup
[22:57:18] Josh: makes that song worth it
[22:57:23] Miami Dan: yay
[22:57:31] Josh: I wonder how involved he usually is with Dennis' stuff
[22:57:41] Josh: like him shouting out Dennis' lines for "Time for Bed"
[22:57:46] Josh: why was he there doing that
[22:57:55] Miami Dan: you mean Wild Situation
[22:57:57] Miami Dan: no idea
[22:58:07] Miami Dan: he's on POB too, pretty sure
[22:58:14] Josh: Yeah, he sings on RS
[22:59:10] Miami Dan: I hope you like this part because it's the rest of the damn song
[22:59:44] Josh: allmusic is recommending that I listen to the Jonas Brothers..
[22:59:45] Josh: like
[22:59:47] Josh: what did I rate
[22:59:58 | Edited 23:00:11] Josh: that they thought
[23:00:38] Miami Dan: big star

Album Tag Song begins.

[23:01:42] Josh: well, these songs are just comin and goin
[23:01:56] Miami Dan: these songs are just bits on a loop
[23:02:06] Miami Dan: because I spose they're unfinished
[23:02:13] Miami Dan: I like this one though
[23:04:11] Josh: these pieces don't fit together very well
[23:04:19] Miami Dan: SMILE BLAH
[23:04:52] Josh: is it influenced by that?
[23:04:56] Miami Dan: no clue
[23:04:57] Miami Dan: probs

All Alone begins.

[23:05:21] Josh: i feel like I know this song
[23:05:28] Josh: oh
[23:05:31] Miami Dan: It wasn't written by Dennis
[23:05:33] Josh: cuz it's on Endless Harmony
[23:05:37] Miami Dan: ohhh k
[23:05:51] Miami Dan: I don't think much of it
[23:06:14] Josh: at least it's mixed well
[23:07:08] Josh: compared to the bootleg ones
[23:07:12] Josh: you see
[23:07:22] Miami Dan: ah
[23:07:43 | Edited 23:07:51] Josh: why are sax solos inescapable
[23:08:15] Miami Dan: sax sells
[23:08:37] Miami Dan: yay we're done

Album ends.

[23:09:24] Miami Dan: so
[23:09:25] Miami Dan: what did you think
[23:09:38] Josh: I would rather listen to POB, i think
[23:09:44] Miami Dan: me too
[23:10:08] Miami Dan: Listening back, there are more tracks I don't care for than I remembered
[23:10:28] Miami Dan: I still really like It's Not Too Late and Companion
[23:10:35] Miami Dan: which were both Munoz blah
[23:10:43 | Edited 23:10:46] Josh: which is Carl on
[23:10:51] Miami Dan: not too late
[23:11:17] Josh: I feel like
[23:11:36] Josh: maybe if I was a bigger fan of straight forward rock music
[23:11:40 | Edited 23:11:59] Josh: and ballads and the like
[23:11:46] Josh: then I would appreciate this more
[23:12:24] Miami Dan: yeah, bluesy hard rock and piano ballads aren't my thing

Final ratings:
Miami Dan: ★★★
Josh: ★★★

[23:13:26] Miami Dan: It's better than LA
[23:13:40] Josh: it's certainly more fun to listen to than LA
[23:14:03] Miami Dan: yay
[23:14:07] Josh: I feel wrong giving it any higher or lower
[23:14:16] Miami Dan: me too
[23:14:19] Miami Dan: so yh
[23:14:21] Miami Dan: that existed

[23:14:26] Josh: it still does

Conversational Review: The Beach Boys - L.A. Light Album (1979)

Josh and I (inexplicably credited as 'Edgar') decided, one fine day, to listen to the Beach Boys' notorious L.A. (Light Album). I'd listened to the album before, but it was his first time. Here's our conversation as the album played:

[19:13:09] Edgar: I shall countdown
[19:13:11] Edgar: 3
[19:13:12] Edgar: 2
[19:13:12] Edgar: 1
[19:13:15] Edgar: PLAY

Good Timin' begins.

[19:13:23] Edgar: Is it working
[19:13:26] Josh: yep
[19:13:28] Edgar: sweet

Lady Lynda begins.

[19:15:25] Edgar: unlike MIU, I do not like this album
[19:15:40] Edgar: though this track is quite nice, if horribly cheesy
[19:19:30] Edgar: there

Full Sail begins.

[19:19:41] Josh: oh
[19:19:43] Edgar: ok, this song is boring as shit
[19:19:45] Josh: here we go
[19:22:22] Edgar: I do not like this song

Angel Come Home begins.

[19:22:33] Edgar: This one's
[19:22:36] Edgar: alright
[19:22:40] Josh: Yeah, that one was a tad slow and just
[19:22:41] Josh: like
[19:22:42] Josh: was boring
[19:22:48] Edgar: bleh
[19:23:09] Josh: He's really talking about sitting a lot
[19:23:11] Edgar: Unfortunately Dennis' contributions are some of his worst
[19:23:22] Edgar: Love Surrounds Me is just agh
[19:23:30] Edgar: I wish I liked it but I really don't
[19:23:39] Edgar: This one's ok, got a nice chorus
[19:23:58] Josh: yeah, the backing vocals are cool
[19:24:14] Josh: Kinda a call and response thing
[19:24:19] Edgar: yup
[19:24:39] Josh: So far
[19:24:46] Josh: I haven't really been able to get into any of these songs
[19:25:08] Edgar: That sucks
[19:25:10] Josh: They're like brick walls of
[19:25:13] Josh: average
[19:25:14] Edgar: because the first two are probably the best
[19:25:24] Josh: No, I liked those two

Love Surrounds Me begins.

[19:25:30] Josh: but since those
[19:25:32] Josh: nuthin
[19:26:22] Edgar: yeah, they're all just drab slow ballads
[19:26:52] Edgar: It's a real shame Dennis' tracks are so mediocre
[19:26:57] Josh: I really wanted to like Dennis' songs
[19:27:06] Edgar: You'd think he'd throw in something great with POB and all
[19:27:12] Josh: At least this one's kinda funky
[19:27:16] Edgar: I spose
[19:27:31] Edgar: Baby Blue gets a lot of acclaim but I don't think too much of it
[19:27:42] Josh: That is not something I have an opinion on yet
[19:28:11] Josh: I like these sections
[19:28:36] Josh: I like the groove
[19:28:43] Josh: they keep using those chimes in this album
[19:29:02] Edgar: true
[19:29:19] Edgar: Sumahama is maligned to death
[19:29:23] Edgar: I think it's a bit unfair
[19:29:33] Josh: we shall see

Sumahama begins.

[19:30:01] nice intro, at least
[19:30:18 | Edited 19:30:25] Josh: I hear the Asian influences
[19:30:25] Edgar: mhm
[19:30:28] Josh: in the intro
[19:30:39] Edgar: here we go
[19:30:59] Josh: Is this a Japanese version of "Belles of Paris"
[19:31:16] Edgar: yes, but at least the melody is better
[19:31:27] Edgar: in fact, I think it's quite good
[19:31:33] Edgar: Mike's nasal kills it a bit though
[19:31:47] Josh: Why did he do this twice in a row
[19:31:50] Edgar: and he starts talking in Japanese in a moment :P
[19:31:55] Edgar: oh, idk
[19:32:06] Edgar: You don't seem to be offended, at least
[19:32:25] Edgar: YET
[19:32:47] Josh: is this really necessary
[19:32:50] Edgar: no
[19:33:09] Josh: I think I started hating this song just now
[19:33:12] Edgar: I see
[19:33:19] Edgar: well
[19:33:22] Edgar: it almost did it for ya
[19:33:50] Edgar: all it needs is a different lead and no Japanese lyrics
[19:33:56] Edgar: everything else about it is fine, really
[19:33:59] Josh: what the f mike
[19:34:02] Edgar: k
[19:34:11] Josh: It was fine
[19:34:16] Edgar: I'm sure the backing track would be a nice listen
[19:34:17] Josh: but then it just became overbearing
[19:34:23] Edgar: fair nuffs

Here Comes The Night begins.

[19:34:27] Edgar: oh god, here we go
[19:34:35] Josh: Oh, is this
[19:34:37] Josh: ..
[19:34:44] Edgar: yeah
[19:34:44] Edgar: yeah
[19:34:55] Josh: Well, I guess we better settle in
[19:34:58] Edgar: hm
[19:35:02] Josh: because we got eleven minutes of this shit
[19:35:43] Edgar: It's not even good disco
[19:35:48] Edgar: production is too thin
[19:35:56] Edgar: I've read it did okay
[19:36:16] Josh: also, it's not even a good beat
[19:36:42] Edgar: worst of all, it's completely out of place
[19:36:48] Edgar: this album does not need a disco track
[19:37:05] Josh: well, maybe it saves us from boring ballads
[19:37:14] Edgar: it's not good enough a jam
[19:37:22] Edgar: I do like the single art though: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/49/Beach_Boys_-_Here_Comes_The_Night.jpg
[19:37:44] Josh: Why did Carl agree to this
[19:37:46 | Edited 19:37:49] Josh: oh, Carl
[19:38:11] Edgar: Carl took part in a lot of misfires, bless him
[19:38:26] Edgar: He had a hand in SIP
[19:38:35] Josh: Yeah, the vocals
[19:39:12] Edgar: this is pretty boring
[19:39:16] Edgar: we're not even halfway through
[19:39:26] Josh: ooh
[19:39:28] Josh: never mind
[19:39:30] Edgar: ?
[19:39:30] Josh: we got a sax solo
[19:39:36] Edgar: blah
[19:39:40] Josh: I dig this now
[19:39:46] Edgar: rly
[19:39:50] Josh: no
[19:39:55] Edgar: ok
[19:41:01] Edgar: lol, monkey
[19:41:03 | Edited 19:41:10] Josh: are those fucking monkeys
[19:41:14] Edgar: well, it's a distinctive touch
[19:41:22] Josh: Why, Bruce, why
[19:41:32] Edgar: So you can see how this album is different from MIU and how the two wouldn't really go together
[19:41:53] Josh: I think you could make it work
[19:42:08] Josh: I think LSM could work in the proper context
[19:42:15] Edgar: maybe next to Diane
[19:42:21] Josh: yeah
[19:42:42] Edgar: ooh, I like this part
[19:42:59] Edgar: harmonies are alright on this track actually
[19:43:04] Josh: Yeah, that was cool
[19:43:28] Josh: I like this section
[19:43:36] Edgar: just ended
[19:43:37 | Edited 19:43:57] Josh: Perhaps better as an a cappella part
[19:43:40] Edgar: maybe
[19:43:52] Edgar: I believe there's an instrumental around
[19:43:59] Josh: There is
[19:43:59] Edgar: I wonder if syncing it up would work
[19:44:05] Josh: but I think it's the single version
[19:44:07] Edgar: oh
[19:44:47] Josh: http://www.willardswormholes.com/?p=12748
[19:45:10] Edgar: ah right

Baby Blue begins.

[19:45:20] Josh: phew
[19:45:20] Edgar: well, this is quite jarring
[19:45:23] Josh: It's over
[19:45:38] Josh: this is gonna suck
[19:46:16] Edgar: nyeh
[19:46:19] Edgar: can't say I love it
[19:46:34] Josh: This sounds like a song for a Disney film
[19:46:35] Edgar: this part's nice though
[19:46:38] Edgar: yeah, kinda
[19:47:10] Josh: it just sounds limp
[19:47:11] Josh: like
[19:47:19] Josh: it's boring
[19:47:25] Josh: and unoriginal
[19:48:00] Edgar: yeah, I can't really get into it
[19:48:19] Edgar: although Brian ripped this off for Pacific Coast Highway :P
[19:48:34] Josh: Seriously, nothing happened in that song
[19:48:37] Edgar: nope

Goin' South begins.

[19:49:01] Edgar: everyone says this one's even more boring than Full Sail
[19:49:03] Edgar: I disagree
[19:49:08] Edgar: I think the production's nice
[19:49:10] Josh: Why did Carl write the same song twice for the same album
[19:49:19] Edgar: oh idk
[19:49:26] Edgar: This would have fit on his solo album
[19:49:59] Edgar: yay sax solo
[19:50:00] Josh: yay
[19:50:05] Josh: I was just going to say that exact thing
[19:50:07] Edgar: I don't mind this one really
[19:50:20] Edgar: it's pretty boring but at least it's nice
[19:50:23] Edgar: this part's nice
[19:51:16] Edgar: It's going on a bit, though
[19:51:45] Edgar: Incidentally this one has the worst art on the cover: http://www.vinylclocks.com/wp-content/uploads/the-beach-boys-l.a.-light-album-vinyl-clock-sleeve1-70s.jpg
[19:51:48] Josh: e;lkfja;
[19:51:56] Edgar: this next one's fun

Shortenin' Bread begins.

[19:52:23 | Edited 19:52:31] Josh: Why is there like a vocoder effect on the bass
[19:52:37] Edgar: meh
[19:52:57] Josh: Is that Dennis
[19:53:15] Edgar: think so
[19:53:27] Josh: I really like the art for "Angel Come Home"
[19:53:30] Edgar: Brian is barely on this album
[19:53:44] Edgar: I think all the artwork is pretty poor
[19:53:53] Edgar: apart from maybe LSM
[19:53:57] Josh: There's something about it
[19:54:00] Edgar: hmmm
[19:54:10] Josh: You understand what the art for LSM is, right
[19:54:18] Edgar: of course
[19:54:25] Edgar: it wouldn't be my favourite otherwise
[19:54:33] Josh: and like
[19:54:40] Josh: what the hell is going on with "Good Timin'"
[19:54:47] Edgar: I just dk

Album ends.

[19:55:08] Edgar: so
[19:55:11] Josh: was I supposed to figure out that they're actually dogs in the song
[19:55:17] Edgar: yes
[19:55:19] Josh: All of it sucks
[19:55:28] Josh: I don't even like "Good Timin'" that much
[19:55:31] Edgar: aw
[19:55:43] Josh: Just has a sheen of sterility over it
[19:55:47] Edgar: It's worse than I remember, have to admit
[19:56:02] Edgar: I'm not sure how on earth I used to be unclear about whether or not this was worse than MIU
[19:56:19] Edgar: It's very boring
[19:56:22] Josh: MIU is fun
[19:56:26] Josh: and there are some good songs on it
[19:56:30] Josh: This is booooooooooring
[19:56:32] Edgar: I don't love any tracks here
[19:56:34] Josh: and there are no good songs on it
[19:56:44] Josh: BUT
[19:56:49] Josh: at least it's not KTSA
[19:56:53] Edgar: I like GT and Lady Lynda the most, even though it's cheesy
[19:56:55] Edgar: true dat
[19:57:05] Edgar: It at least sounds like they're sort of trying here
[19:57:10] Josh: Yeah, I think, of all the tracks, I liked Lady Lynda the most
[19:57:17] Edgar: yay
[19:57:46] Josh: It might just be because Al stole the music from a famous, classical composer
[19:57:59] Josh: so, at least that part of it is good

Final ratings:
Edgar: A generous ★★
Josh: ★★

[19:58:43] Josh: It looks like we're in agreement
[19:59:04] Edgar: yay
[19:59:07] Edgar: this album blows
[19:59:11] Josh: sure does
[19:59:28] Josh: they had Adult/Child
[19:59:35] Josh: and they were like "Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"
[19:59:44 | Edited 19:59:55] Josh: "let's release this pile of late-70's garbage"
[20:00:27] Edgar: bleh
[20:01:07] Josh: okay, I relistened to "Lady Lynda"
[20:01:11] Josh: and I don't like it that much
[20:01:21] Josh: just the harpsichord parts
[20:02:18] Josh: that album is seriously lacking Brian
[20:02:59] Edgar: oh.
[20:03:09] Edgar: It certainly is though
[20:03:15] Edgar: does he even appear outside of Good Timin'
[20:03:41] Josh: "Harmony and backing vocals on 'Angel Come Home', paino"
[20:03:56] Josh: I don't even think he's on "Good Timin'"
[20:04:01] Edgar: jeez
[20:04:06] Josh: he plays piano on it
[20:05:07] Josh: I think I would have liked "Shortenin' Bread" the most if they had kept it as the A/C version
[20:05:24] Josh: and why, of all tracks, did they salvage "Shortenin' Bread" from A/C
[20:05:35 | Edited 20:05:37] Josh: just bad decisions
[20:05:40] Josh: all around
[20:06:23] Edgar: I think SB is sorta fun
[20:06:37] Edgar: not that it helps raise the star rating or anything
[20:06:51] Josh: Sure, it's fun
[20:06:55] Josh: but they made it worse
[20:07:03] Edgar: meh
